A Personalized Gift

I was recently commissioned to make this clip-board for my friend Blake, who just finished his degree at WCU.  

I used cherry, curly maple, walnut and purple heart.  I first glued the strips of wood into a panel, which was then planed down to about 1/4 inch thick.  after sanding and adding a corner detail, I carved in Blake's name and degree letters. I finished the clip-board with Tried and True's linseed oil finish, which is an all natural blend of oil and bees wax. After this oil cured, I rubbed on another coat of past wax.  The brass hardware is from Rockler.com.
